WEEKLY COMMUNITY CLASSES: Open/ Drop-In Community Classes are offered for new or current students interested in learning about Aztec dance and drumming every Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Roosevelt Community Center, located at 901 East Santa Clara Street, San Jose CA. This class covers both drumming and dancing forms and techniques for beginning and intermediate students. The class is divided into three parts and usually starts with some drumming drills, dancing form and technique warm-ups, and ends with a short cardio dance workout. The class is intended for beginners to intermediate students - no previous experience is necessary. For the use of the facility space, a donation of $5.00 is requested per each class at the Sign-In table. Please wear appropriate workout clothes and bring water bottle and a notebook/ pen for each class. Note: No Red or Blue clothing is allowed at the center. EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS/ RESIDENCIES: Tezkatlipoka Aztec Dance and Drum also offers educational and cultural workshops and residencies for schools, cultural groups, community organizations, etc. Traditional musical instruments such as hand carved drums, hand drums, hand and ankle pod rattles are utilized to make music to ancient Aztec beats.
